Genre Analysis- 21

The opening voice over begins with these word , "Winner winner chicken dinner". The films opens with this to identify the pretense of the nature that surrounds the themes that run throughout this film. It identifies the genre as being connected to gambling, the proceeding voice over then fortifies the setting and themes. "Its Vegas law", this gives the audience a clear , precise location for where the main context of the film will take place, or at the very least, a primary location. This voice over the continues to identify the genre of the film, "First of all what i was doing wasn't illegal", this draws in the listener, creating a sense of tension and secrecy, which is present throughout the rest of the movie. The main character's attributes are also given to the audience within this voice over "I have a gifted mind", this presents us with a main lead role that is intellectual.

Breaking convention, secondary to the voice over at the beginning of the film, is the visual combination of the CGI poker chips and filmed footage. This complements the voice over and gives further context. For example, the poker chips that are present within the opening sequence represent the setting for the film, and the locations in which the non-illegal activities will take place in. Another large part of this opening sequence is the applying of the costume to the main lead. This takes place in parallel to the section of the voice over which discusses the "skill" being frowned upon. The costume gives a sense of reality, mystery and danger to the voice over, as there no need for a costume if there was non of these things.

The film uses voice over, and clear themes to set the genre of the this film. Although the genre itself is not as clear cut as some films i have analysed, i still believe this film is a great basis to inspire parts of my film opening. Its a drama thriller, which falls directly parallel to my own film opening
