Genre Conventions for Drama
Upon the anaylsis of the genre, a number of conventions are present in all.
- The main story line of a drama is around conflict. Whatever this may be.
- Character progression is a huge story line convention.
- Many drama's are interlaced with other genre's. For example Action drama, drama thriller.
- Most drama's that are interlaced will break conventions.(For example not having a happy ending)
- Films are structured around a series of climax's and anti climaxs, rather than just not stop action for example.
- Most interlaced films will masquared under the second genre, rather than drama. For example, pirates of the caribbean takes the action genre, when the main underlying story is the love between Will and Elizabeth.
AWARDS.
Within this genre, awards are given at mostly generic due to the wide nature to the genre. The main awards given are:
- The Oscars (Academy Awards)
- While all genres are included in this, many drama's make the short list to Best Picture.While the genre allows for actors to shine in Best Actor awards.
- Golden Globes
- Similar to the oscars, various awards in different catagories.
